National Cereal Day

It's National Cereal Day and I'll always think of my old colleague Patrick. He died tragically young at around the age of 24.  He had already overcome a brain tumor when I met him and its return is what ended his life. He was a font of sexual harassment and trivial knowledge. He didn't harass me sexually but he bombarded me with questions.

During our short association, he always gave me lists and wanted to know what would I choose. He was particularly obsessed with Cereal and asked if I ate my milk first or Cereal then milk. I'm a Cereal first kinda guy. In memoriam, I'm going to list my favorite Cereals

1. Lucky Charms- Marshmallows and Oats- Manna from Heaven

2. Grape-Nuts- when I'm feeling health-conscious

3. Frosted Mini-Wheats- guaranteed regularity

4. Fruity Pebbles- Hanna Barbera cross-marketing

5. Quaker Oat Squares- The cereal that took the Burch house by storm in the '80s.

6. Life- Cinnamon- Stabilizes Blood sugar

7. Honeycombs- Seasonal - 212 Juniper couldn't accommodate this in summer months as it stuck together

8. Golden Crisp- Same as above. It's inaccessibility enhanced its appeal.

9. Captain Crunch-  Probably should be higher on the list but I don't crave it much anymore

10.- Quisp- Where did it go? Similar to Captain Crunch. The spaceman in the TV ads made me want it.

RIP Patrick- I'm going to enjoy today and my Cereal thanks to you.
