Dave Dexter Jr > Giles Martin

Another Giles Martin supervised Beatles reissue is upon us. This time it's "Revolver". Yet another repackage to improve the "quality" of a classic album for a generation that wouldn't know Hi Fidelity if it landed on their house in a 747!!

Supposedly using Peter Jackson "Get Back" tech, they have separated tracks originally played live to tape and given us a clearer picture. Any remix is a step away from the artist vision circa 1966. It was the limitations that made the records great, not the fidelity.

"Revolver" was the last album edited by Capitol Records Dave Dexter Jr. He was the man who famously passed on their first British album but was responsible for each subsequent American release thru "Yesterday and Today". He was the infamous "butcher" they mocked on "Yesterday's" cover. He would assemble choice cuts and singles into additional product, often adding reverb or creating stereo mixes. Whether percussion was added or revealed thru this process is hard to say. It is true that these are the version's every American Beatles fan grew up with until the advent of the CD. The US "Rubber Soul" maybe the best folk rock collection of all time. Dave to my ears was genius. Better than George Martin any day. Prove me wrong!!!

The Giles Martin supervised versions are Beatle approved because "All You NEED is cash"  Like films released on DVD or VHS, you will need to hang on to the originals as the current version on streaming might be inferior but all you can get in a few years.
