I don't like Reggae....I LOVE it!

A famous line from 10CC's "Dreadlock Holiday", one of a series of songs by English boys bitching about poor treatment when recording in Jamaica. The others that spring to mind are "Safe European Home" by the Clash and "Jamaican Jerk-Off" by Elton John. I suspect they couldn't find any heroin and got irritable but that is purely speculation based on zero facts.

I have some reggae related trauma playing at the Bottom Line in Lexington back in the day. They were known for their reggae nights and that wasn't something that we could much do as a 3 piece rock band. The two or three divorcees in the crowd could get a bit salty. I figured out how to do "Legalize It" by Peter Tosh cause doing Bob Marley covers was too "top 40" to my way of thinking.

I would have loved to been in a SKA band but that need some regular Keys or Horn's. Our version of "Police and Thieves" was even whiter than the Clash if such a thing could exist. If Bill Lynch ever finds the demo tape of "Reggae Rocker", he will wish the only hassles he has are from neighbors who don't like his truck parked in his own driveway!! Kudos to Bill for mastering "Watching the Detectives" though, it saved our ass from the ugly Reggae loving Zombies that spring up each memorial day. Let's just say their thirst can't be quenched at the water tower.

For the final word, "Night Nurse" by Gregory Issac's is my favorite. That's my Reggae dream.
