Old men destroying the earth

This statement was a hook in one of the songs featured in Bernard Shakey's film "Mountaintop". Bernard is the Ed Wood of rock and roll and rockumentary film making. Luckily, he has this guy named Neil Young who provides music on these things! Shakey pictures have improved since he added D.H. Lovelife as a co-conspirator, they aren't quite "Splash" but it's improving.

"Mountaintop" covers the making of Neil Young and Crazy Horse's "Colorado". This is there first with Nils Lofgren in awhile. I was kinda excited about the prospect. I do actually subscribe to NYA (Neil Young Archives). While I don't use it much. It is probably the best value for money of any of the services I use. Bernard Shakey films are so bad they can't even play at an art house, grindhouse, or a drive-in. As Neil says in this flick. "It's not good but it's going to be great."

While I admire Neil's longevity and creativity, it would never happen without a (paid) supporting cast. The interesting thing about the documentary is how relentlessly he drives his crew of techies (particularly John Hanlon) who make his spontaneity possible. Without that level of support, his meanderings would be unbaked, not half-baked!!  "Colorado" is serviceable Crazy Horse "Mountaintop" is great Crazy Horse.
