Shhhhsh

I was lying in bed with a slight headache the other morning, reviewing some email. Yes, I still get some of those though they are mainly marketing. One was from the Elvis Costello website trumpeting his new release "Hetty O'hara confidential", for some reason i suspected it was going to be noisy and didn't click the link in my condition.

I had meant to blog about how much "imperial bedroom" released July 2, 1982 had meant to my life. I have to say that the last fully realized release for EC was "All this useless beauty" maybe he just needed his hatred for Bruce Thomas to make a great album.

I once did a cut up of lyrics from his 1st two albums as a songwriting experience. If you aren't familiar, it's a technique where you cut phrases out of books you like and pull them out of a hat and glue them to page. Bowie used it on "Diamond Dogs". "Hetty" doesn't seem too dissimilar to that. Like a weak tea version of "Watching the Detectives".

It's sad when you no longer have to buy albums by your favorites on the day that they come out. I've been through it with all but Suede. I'll use Graham Parker as an example. I'll hear his new songs occasionally but don't feel a need to seek out the LP. It's like a TV series, they usually say it all in the 1st five seasons. If you can keep saying something different after 5 albums you've probably broke the curve. Looks like Jimmy honeyman has just two albums left!!!
