Talking bout JellyBabies "Sugar Candy Delights" E.P.

The latest release from the archives is the "Sugar Candy Delights" E.P. by the Jellybabies. This was the 2nd line-up of the band after Kevin Blevins and Bill Lynch moved on to other projects. Letha and I went back to Loafers and Eardamage bass player Ted Willard to continue to play out and promote "12 +1".  We found James Shuttler from an ad in Louisville Music News and added Ronnie Doo Wop (aka Stewart Burch) on 2nd guitar. The extra guitar was needed as James style was somewhat more 'compact".

I'm very proud of my production on this one. Our engineer at Studio 2002, Rob Magallon was skeptical about whether James' drumming was up to snuff for the sessions. I had to go back and study the tapes and figure out what to add and subtract to make it work. Stew's violin and guitar gave me much fader fodder. Ted's solid bass and Letha's percussion were key too.

Ted left in March of 1999 due to golfing conflicts. James was gone by that summer, frustrated that we wouldn't buy a PA and turn in to Karen Kraft and Kicks!!! The live version of "My Big Mouth" is the debut of the JP and Gary rhythm section that would many years later evolve into the Jimmy Honeyman Quartet. I need to do a Pete Frame style family tree to document this stuff!  I will admit the final 4 piece Jellybabies was the most fun. I think this take from out 'pajama' party captures it.
